What it is
How Xylan 1424 protects the joint.
01Waterborne PTFE filmThe 142X series is waterborne and VOC-compliant – the same PTFE dry-film principle as 1070, in a different binder.
02Controlled make-up torqueDeveloped to give a predictable make-up torque on threaded fasteners.
03Colour codingAvailable in many colours, so grades or projects can be told apart on site.
Applications
Where we use it.
01Chemical plantsFlanges exposed to chemicals and caustic media.
02OffshoreBolting in marine environments where a thin-film coating is preferred.
03Colour-coded setsProjects that mark grade, line or contractor by colour.
Layer thickness
Thickness, fit and threads.
Layer thickness
≈ 25µm
The 142X series is applied at about 1 mil (25 µm) dry film. *In the maker’s test, 142X at 1 mil over zinc-phosphated steel exceeded 1.500 hours ASTM B117 salt spray.

How it is applied
From bare steel to coated part.
01CleanDegreasing and, depending on the system, blasting.
02PretreatmentZinc phosphate – or a zinc layer for extra protection.
03Xylan 1424 topcoatSprayed in a thin, even film in the chosen colour.
04Oven cureThermal cure makes the film hard and bonded.
FAQ
Questions we get about Xylan 1424.
- 1424 or 1070?
- 1424 gives more chemical, abrasion and corrosion resistance over the same pretreatment; 1070 withstands higher temperatures.
- 1424 or 1427?
- 1427 is the 142X grade with extra corrosion protection, for offshore and subsea.
- Can you match our colour code?
- Yes – tell us the colour per grade or line and we coat accordingly.
- Do I need other torque values?
- Yes. Use torque values for the coated condition.
