DIN 934 / ISO 4032 – Hexagon nuts
Dimensions, materials and applications – with the ISO counterpart ISO 4032.
DIN 934 is the classic standard for regular hexagon nuts with metric thread. Its ISO successor is ISO 4032 for coarse thread and ISO 8673 for fine thread. Hex nuts are the counterpart to hex bolts, socket screws and threaded rods in almost every bolted joint.
ISO 4032 is not a renumbering. The width across flats changed for M10, M12, M14 and M22 – to 16, 18, 21 and 34 mm – and most nuts became taller: an M10 nut, for example, from 8 to 8.4 mm. ISO 4032 nuts also have to withstand higher proof loads. An ISO 4032 nut can replace a DIN 934 nut, but not the other way round. Our datasheet shows the dimensions to ISO 4032.
We supply hex nuts to DIN 934 / ISO 4032 from M1.6, in property classes 8, 10 and 12 and in stainless A2-70, A4-70 and A4-80. Stainless nuts up to M12 are also available EPK-treated for cleanroom use.
Applications
- Nuts for 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 hex bolts and threaded rods
- Stainless assemblies in food, pharma and water treatment
- Cleanroom and vacuum equipment in A2 or A4 with EPK treatment
- Machine building and steel structures

Questions about DIN 934 / ISO 4032.
- Can DIN 934 nuts replace ISO 4032 nuts?
- No. DIN 934 nuts only have to withstand lower proof loads than ISO 4032 nuts. Replacing DIN 934 with ISO 4032 is fine; the other way round is not.
- Which nut class goes with an 8.8 bolt?
- A property class 8 nut. Use class 10 for 10.9 bolts and class 12 for 12.9 bolts; a higher class is always allowed. For stainless, use the same class as the bolt, for example A4-80 on A4-80.
