Common nominal thicknesses to ISO 4042. Thicker layers reduce thread clearance. For high-strength or hardened parts, ISO 4042 gives measures against hydrogen embrittlement.

FAQ
Questions we get about Zinc plated.
- Is zinc plating suitable for 10.9 or 12.9?
- There is a risk of hydrogen embrittlement. ISO 4042 sets measures; often zinc flake (Geomet) is the safer choice.
- Which colour?
- Clear/blue is standard; iridescent and black are available.
- Why zinc plated for header plugs?
- It gives steel plugs a clean, protected surface for storage and assembly.
- Can it be thicker?
- Yes, but thicker layers reduce thread clearance – tell us the application.
